Evidence we are nearing the End of Days

This one is for Mort, who built a career out of skewering the Kennedys and using newspapers as props. He proved the axiom that you can't make this shit up.

The following are just from today's Oregonian.

The AP reported that "Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee suggested in a radio interview that President Barack Obama's childhood in Kenya shaped his wold view — even though Obama did not visit Kenya until he was in his 20's."

The article goes on, reporting that the "executive director of Huckabee's political action committee said the former governor misspoke." (italics are mine). Huckabee's "handler" is a guy named Hogan Gidley. And if that ain't a phony baloney moniker, I don't know what is.

The gaffs continue, with Hogie saying that Huckabee "meant to reference Obama's childhood in Indonesia, where he lived from age 5 to 10. Gidley din't explain the connection to the Mau Mau uprising."

What?

Y'all speak Obama?

On the same page of the paper a small piece reported that Anti-Obama groups set fundraising goal. This one is about two "advocacy groups" tied to "republican politcal guru," Karl Rove. My quotes. My disbelief. My disgust. The groups plan to raise $120 million to spend against President Barack Obama and other Democrats in 2012. They're calling themselves the "American Crossroads" and they appear not to be for anyone. I shouldn't be so snarky. I can clearly remember when the chant was "anyone but Bush."

The same section had a little piece about Newt Gingrich "poised to become the first top-tier Republican to take steps toward a presidential run..." The article concluded that a spokesman for Gingrich declined comment on the former speaker's plans. By the way, he converted to Catholicism after two divorces, one requested as his wife was lying in a hospital bed. Class act.

The next page had an article entitled, Georgia legislator pushes 'birther bill. The AP reports that "Georgia is the latest state to propose legislation that questions whether President Barack Obama was born in the United States." There are 10 other states that "have measures seeking more proof before his name is put on the 2012 ballot."

So, in essence, we now have blue states, red states and states of denial. The latter classification is applied to Arizona, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas, Connecticut, Indiana, Tennessee and Maine.

You're right. That's only nine. The article counted Nebraska twice.

What is it with Tennessee? Page 7 had an article reporting that they are "considering making it a felony to follow some versions of the Islamic code known as Shariah.

yuck.

And finally, the wire reports that "the bacteria that cause Legionnaire's disease were found a the Playboy mansion during an investigation into an illness that affected about 200 people who attended an event the last month."

Hmmm. Was the event in the grotto?
